I started in music production, thinking I was most passionate about the artistic and creative side. Turns out, it was always the math and science within audio engineering that I enjoyed most. After 10 years working for a leading manufacturer of audio recording products, wearing just about every marketing hat, I started my own digital media agency. I'd always believed the big agencies and brands of the world had figured out how to best quantify and optimize ad effectiveness - and that there's no way I could compete.
Only took a few years and some white labeling for much larger agencies to learn how far from the truth that is. Literally anyone can run ads on just about any platform, and now more than ever, its easy to make performance look decent on paper. At most mid-size and up agencies, they have enough kids straight out of college to assemble "teams" to do this, build reporting presentations and provide lip service to the effectiveness of the money they waste for clients.
Turns out, not a lot of people in the ad (specifically media buying) industry are great at admitting when something doesn't work or actually tracking big picture metrics such as a brands total sales. One of the first things I like to say to new prospective clients: If I double the ROAS in every ad platform you're currently running, but your total sales drop by 50%, would you be happy? Probably not... I'm passionate about digital advertising, measuring ACTUAL performance and am on a lifelong mission to stop brands and agencies from wasting their time and money on the wrong things.
